Danny O’Brien Officially Transferring From Maryland Football, Along With Two Teammates

The Maryland Terrapins announced Monday that quarterback Danny O'Brien, along with offensive lineman Max Garcia and linebacker Mario Rowson, will transfer elsewhere. O'Brien and Garcia had been reportedly interested in transferring since last week, while Rowson is a surprise for many of us. This makes 12 transfers who've left since Randy Edsall took over.

Particularly harsh timing for the Terps, since O’Brien seemed to be one of the factors that helped Maryland land star receiver recruit Stefon Diggs. O’Brien hosted Diggs on a visit just before his weekend announcement. Whether this news will have any affect on Diggs remains to be seen.

O'Brien was named the ACC's 2010 Rookie of the Year before struggling as a sophomore under a new offensive coordinator. Talk will now resume of him playing at any number of SEC or Big Ten schools, with former coach James Franklin's Vanderbilt looking like a reasonable possibility. And Wisconsin's kind of got the importing-ACC-quarterbacks thing down.
