AMC Developing Football Drama That Is, Sadly, Nothing Like ‘The Program’

AMC is reportedly developing a new football drama that could involve Tommy Lee Jones, and it sounds promising. Jones would be producing here, and it’d be a period piece adapted from Sally Jenkins’ book about a forgotten school from the late-1800s. As The Hollywood Reporter details:

Based on Sally Jenkins’ book about the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Real All Americans chronicles the school’s storied football program created by U.S. cavalry officer Richard Henry Pratt, an abolitionist and early equal rights proponent who made a harrowing journey to the Dakota Territory in 1879 to recruit the school’s first students.

Pratt’s football program had a stunning win-loss record (167-88-13) and produced a string of famous athletes and coaches – including Olympian Jim Thorpe and coach Glenn “Pop” Warner.

On the other hand, we’re smack in the middle of a golden age for hour-long cable dramas, and there’s still no modernized version of “The Program” on TV every week. FOR SHAME, AMERICA.
