WVU, Alabama Working On 2014 Season-Opening Matchup, According To Reports

The Alabama Crimson Tide and West Virginia Mountaineers are in discussions to kick off the 2014 college football season in Atlanta, as first reported by IBleedCrimsonRed.com.

It’s not official, but it’s in the works, and that’s more than enough to get fans buzzing.

The game would be the annual Chick Fil-A Kickoff , which has traditionally served as a nice early season spectacle; the first primetime and network televised game of the season.

Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban hinted at the game during a Crimson Caravan meeting in Florence, Alabama. Pressed on the subject, Saban provided no detail or confirmation to reporters in attendance at the event, but further reports on the potential game have since surfaced in Morgantown, as the Charleston Daily Mail’s Mike Casazza has tweeted that the game is in the works and will require some juggling in West Virginia’s end.

The Crimson Tide are no stranger to this game. In 2009 they defeated Virginia Tech 34-24, and are scheduled to play the Hokies again to commence the 2013 season.

A potential match-up between a program that prides itself on its vaunted defense and one that plays a unique “Airraid” offense will be a treat for all college football fans.
