Hey, let's think of a college football program that really deserves to have something bad happen to it. Give it a second. OK, everybody got one? I bet you didn't pick the Tennessee Volunteers! Well, too bad:

Yep. After injuries, coaching defections, injuries, bizarre clock-management-related losses, injuries and injuries, the latest setback is the loss of a potential starting cornerback. Lanier was listed as battling senior Prentiss Waggner for a top spot on Tennessee's post-spring depth chart. So the job is probably Waggner's now.

Lanier, a junior, finished third among all Vols defensive backs in tackles last year, also breaking up four passes. He appeared in 12 games. Luckily, Waggner is also quite experienced, posting a similar assortment of his own stats last year, including two interceptions and two sacks.
