Bobby Bowden Has An iPad, Wants On BCS Panel

With NCAA football potentially moving to a four-team playoff format, it will need a panel of coaches to potentially vote on the teams that will compete in the national championship playoffs. One person who would like to be on such a panel is former Florida State head coach, legend Bobby Bowden.

Why does Bobby Bowden think he’s a good candidate for a spot on the BCS panel that selects the teams for the playoffs?

He’s got an iPad.

“I would be willing to serve on it,” Bowden told Joe Schad of ESPN. “I think ex-coaches have a lot of wisdom. I watch the games. And I watch the game films on my iPad.”

Bowden is now a member of the group that votes on the “Legends Poll”, which is a group of legendary ex-coaches that have been asked to watch game film from teams across the country for the past seven years and vote.

“This Legends group is about as real a group as you can have,” Bowden said. “I voted for years as an active coach. But what you’re really doing then is putting yourself and your conference in position. I used to have an idea of what was going on around me. But now I really have an idea of what’s going on around the country. When we’re retired, we all have a better view.”

I’m not sure which part here struck me more, the fact that Bobby Bowden operates an iPad to watch football film or the fact that coaches admit to not really having idea as to what’s going on in college football across the country.
