The ‘NCAA Football 13’ Heisman Mode: What About The Rest Of Us?

You can play with former Heisman greats in NCAA Football 13, but what to do if your school doesn’t have a FBS team? Solutions within.Follow @SBNationCFB

Among the topics of the week for SB Nation’s many fine college football blogs: Which former Heisman Trophy winner would you put on your team? Here are some of those discussions, all of which were interesting and illuminating.

This was all brought on, of course, by the release of NCAA Football 13, which includes a mode that lets you put Barry Sanders and Robert Griffin III and Tim Tebow and so forth on any team you like, just to see what happens. But what if your team isn't in the game?

Maybe you went to a FCS school. Maybe you went to a Division II school. Maybe you went to an ACC school. Maybe your school doesn’t even have football yet, as is the case with my alma mater. This calls for a combination of features, and what follows is a recommended list of pairings of Heisman winners and create-a-team schools.

Herschel Walker to Kennesaw State: Because Vince Dooley recruited him once, and surely can do it again.

Eric Dickerson to the Dallas Fivekillers: Because somebody’s gotta stop a certain former teammate from striking again.

Charlie Ward to Marquette: Oh, no, not the football team. Back-to-back Sweet Sixteens, son!

Reggie Bush to the List Of Heisman Trophy Winners: Reggie Bush is not actually in NCAA Football 13’s Heisman mode.

Ron Dayne and Matt Leinart to A Buddy Cop Movie: We’ll call it Hot Tub Snacks Machine, y’all.

Frank Sinkwich to Georgia: Georgia actually is in the game, but I just wanted to say that Frank Sinkwich was the original Next Herschel Walker.

Archie Griffin to Big Ten Fans Who Complain About Rematches: I really don’t think this team would be very good if it were a real team.

Steve Spurrier to Duke: Farfetched.

Steve Spurrier to Tim Tebow: “Son, I ... [sigh] ... the object of the game is to ... what we ... listen, when you take the snap from the center, you ... no, no, no, no, no, your arm needs to just go forward, it’s real simple, we ... awwwwww, [hurls visor]” -- the kind of things Steve Spurrier would say to Tim Tebow

Charles Woodson to the Tennessee Titans: I have no idea why you’d put a NFL team in NCAA Football, other than to accomplish what we’ve just accomplished here.

Please continue the process in the comments below. Where oh where are we sending Gino Torretta and Eric Crouch?
