Duron Carter Reportedly Applies to Florida Atlantic For 2012 Season

Former Ohio St. Buckeyes wide receiver and temporary University of Alabama student Duron Carter may be looking to land on his feet with the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Carter, the son of former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter, has applied for enrollment to the school, a source told FAUOwlAccess.com, and is hoping to also receive an exemption and be eligible to play football this fall for the Owls.

A product of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Carter caught 13 passes for 176 yards during the 2009 season for Ohio State, but faced academic issues and transferred to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

After attempting a move to Tuscaloosa to join the Alabama Crimson Tide, continued academic and transcript issues prevented Carter from doing anything more than practice with Nick Saban's program.

"[Duron] refuses to buy in to what we teach and what we value to be successful. He will not play for this football team. Period," Saban reportedly said at an event last month.

If Carter does receive an immediate transfer exemption by the NCAA, he would have two years of eligibility remaining. But if he is not approved, he would have to sit out the 2012 season and lose a year of eligibility, meaning he would have just one college season remaining in 2013.
