Stanford Cardinal head coach David Shaw has announced that Josh Nunes will be the starting quarterback for the Cardinal when the season begins. The 6'4 redshirt junior and former four-star recruit from Upland, CA beat out redshirt sophomore Brett Nottingham for the right to follow in Andrew Luck's footsteps as the signal caller for the Cardinal program.

Josh Nunes will be the first to take a shot at the Cardinal quarterback spot left behind by the departed Andrew Luck.
It was a close race throughout with neither player truly distinguishing themselves until Nunes finally separated himself enough in the last few days to secure the job.
Nunes, who made brief appearances in five games in 2010 and has thrown a pair of collegiate passes, is considered to have a better understanding of the pro-style offense that the Cardinal run, even though Nottingham may have more upside in the offense and in the future.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Hogan also got a few looks, but it came down to Nunes and Nottingham with Nunes getting the nod.
