Maryland Plague Continues: Starter Andre Monroe’s Season Ends

Only a week after losing their starting quarterback, a new spate of injuries has hit the Maryland Terrapins roster.

Maryland Terrapins defensive end Andre Monroe will miss the entire 2012 season due to a knee injury, head coach Randy Edsall announced Tuesday. The redshirt sophomore started four games in 2011. From Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun:

“It’s amazing because Andre Monroe, he was just running straight ahead. He was running a sprint and his knee kind of gave out and that was it,” Edsall said. “So a lot of the issues that we have haven’t even been contact-type situations. (You) “just work the guys that are out there -- that’s all you can do.”

Monroe's injury is just the latest for the Terrapins' defense. Linebacker Kenny Tate also injured his left leg and will be evaluated by doctors. Tate had knee surgery in the offseason after an injury cut his season short in 2011. Defensive end Keith Bowers is expected to miss two to three weeks, and safety A.J. Hendy will miss three to four weeks with an ankle sprain. Cornerback Isaac Goins is expected to be out three weeks with mononucleosis.

Of course, all this comes on top of the fact that starting quarterback C.J. Brown will miss the entire season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in a freak accident at practice on Aug. 14.
