Alabama has awarded a full scholarship to its long snapper, Carson Tinker. Tinker's name was in the news in April 2011, when his girlfriend, Ashley Harrison, was killed in the area's massive tornado outbreak. Harrison and Tinker were thrust 50 yards from the closet in which they were huddled.

Coach Nick Saban was happy to present Tinker with the award, saying, “We are very excited and happy that we are able to reward Carson. He has had such a positive influence in so many ways -- personally, academically and athletically.”

Tinker received the good news on Monday, and was clearly honored: “I’m very thankful. It’s an answered prayer, honestly.”

Not only was this a great honor, it also will provide financial relief to Tinker’s parents. His father reportedly started a new job on Monday.
