Iowa State announced that they signed AD Jamie Pollard to a five-year extension on Wednesday, moving the end of his current contract from 2014 to 2019.

The Cyclones AD has overseen a steady improvement in men’s basketball and football that has raised the school’s athletic profile.
While ADs at BCS conferences like the Big 12 are responsible for massive multimillion dollar budgets as well as a wide array of sports teams, they are judged mainly for the success of their men’s football and basketball teams.
By that metric, Pollard has recovered from a slow start and shaky hires in both sports (Gene Chizik and Greg McDermott) to make the Cyclones more relevant. His basketball coach, former Iowa State great Fred Hoiberg, took his team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and gave eventual national champion Kentucky a scare while his football coach, Paul Rhoads, knocked Oklahoma State out of the national title game with a shocking upset last season.
Under Pollard, the school has invested more than $100 million in athletic facilities, a competitive necessity for a school without much of an athletic tradition that has to share a talent-poor state like Iowa.
