After leading Iowa State to shocking upsets last season over No. 22 Texas Tech and No. 2 Oklahoma State -- and delivering stirring postgame speeches that went viral (well, at least among college football fans) -- Paul Rhoads' stock is rising. And just in case his 10-year, $20 million extension wasn't reward enough, he's now earned a prize even more rare: getting namechecked by the Sports Fan in Chief.
Paul Rhoads Is So Proud Of Barack Obama’s Shout-Out
President Barack Obama prefaced his remarks at a campaign stop in Ames, Iowa with a verbal hat-tip to Rhoads. “I won’t pretend I can give a speech like Coach Rhoads can, but I’m going to try,” he said.
Pandering to locals? Perhaps. But it didn’t make the moment any less special to Rhoads, who later described to reporters what it was like getting a shout out from the most powerful man in the world.
