The Baylor Bears will be without a big defensive contributor in 2012, as it has been confirmed that starting defensive tackle Kaeron Johnson will miss his senior season after having back surgery. It was confirmed on Twitter early Wednesday morning by John Werner of the Waco Tribune-Herald.

Johnson had missed a large chunk of the preseason with injury issues. Losing Johnson will be a blow to a Bears’ defensive line that is mostly comprised of youth at the moment, as written by Our Daily Bears:
Without blowing things out of proportion like the typical Chicken Little Baylor fan, this is a serious blow for our depth on the defensive line. DT, already a position of relative weakness, now looks to be primarily a rotation of one senior (Nick Johnson) and three redshirt freshmen (Trevor Clemons-Valdez, Beau Blackshear, and either Masumbuko or Donald Bryant).
Baylor is already expected to suffer a drop in form from 2011 after losing its two biggest offensive weapons to the NFL -- Heisman winner Robert Griffin III and wide receiver Kendall Wright.
