McNeese State, an FCS squad playing FBS Middle Tennessee on college football’s opening night, shocked the Blue Raiders at home, 27-21 as another FCS school proved its worth against college football’s top subdivision.

The Cowboys combination of two quarterbacks accounted for two touchdown passes as McNeese State quarterback Cody Stroud passed for 139 yards and a touchdown on 10 completions, and Tyler Bolfing had a touchdown strike of his own. Wiltz rushed for 105 yards on 20 carries.
After falling six points down midway through the second quarter, the Cowboys reeled off 24 straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Cowboys added a field goal in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.
Middle Tennessee was led on the night by quarterback Logan Kilgore, who passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-41 passing. Kilgore was picked off once by the McNeese State defense.
