Head coach Bo Pelini’s Cornhuskers are coming off a 9-3 season that ended with a 30-13 loss to South Carolina in the Capitol One Bowl. The Nebraska offense will be led by junior dual-threat quarterback Taylor Martinez. Last season, Martinez started all 13 games and amassed 2,963 yards of total offense including 24 touchdowns, 13 through the air and nine rushing.
Southern Miss begins the 2012 season under the direction of new Head Coach Ellis Johnson. The Golden Eagles won Conference USA in 2011, beating Houston 49-28 in the conference championship game before winning the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl 24-17 over Nevada, finishing off a 12-2 season. Southern Miss welcomes back 12 starters from last year’s team that finished ranked 19th in the USA Today coaches poll, 20th in the AP top 25 and 21st in the final BCS standings.

Point spread: Nebraska is a 20 point favorite over Southern Miss. The over/under for the game is set at 53 points.
