The Florida State Seminoles begin the 2012 campaign by hosting Murray State on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Tallahassee. With ever-high expectations, the Seminoles look to improve upon last year’s 9-4 effort, which concluded with a bowl win over Notre Dame.

The Seminoles return eight players from last year’s fourth-ranked scoring defense, which held opponents to just 15.1 points per game. The unit also held the fourth-best defense in yards allowed, giving up just 275 yards per game.
On offense, Florida State returns with senior quarterback E.J. Manuel under center. The 6'5 signal caller threw for 2,666 yards and 18 touchdowns last year as a first-time starter. He will be backed up by sophomore Clint Trickett, who went 24-38 for 336 yards and three touchdowns in a fill-in start against Clemson last season. The experienced tailbacks of Chris Thompson, Devonta Freeman, and James Wilder all return after rushing for a combined 822 yards in 2011.
Murray State comes to Tallahassee after last season's 7-4 effort in the FCS's Ohio Valley Conference. The Racers will be led by the senior third-year starter Casey Brockman at quarterback. Brockman has thrown for 6,261 yards and 43 touchdowns in his career.
