Texas State Vs. Houston Final Score: Bobcats Upset Cougars In First FBS Game

The Texas State Bobcats upset the Houston Cougars on Saturday night, 30-13, in the Texas State's first FBS game since joining the Western Athletic Conference earlier this year.

The Cougars are headed for the Big East in 2013 and had high hopes for the football program under new coach Tony Levine, yet the first game of the new era did not go according to plan when Texas State walking away with a tremendous upset victory at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

The Bobcats would jump on the Cougars early with a 21-yard touchdown reception by Marcus Curry on the Texas State early in the first quarter, with Curry rushing for a 73-yard score on the first play of the very next drive.

The Cougars would pull to within 14-10 after a 64-yard David Piland touchdown pass to Larry McDuffey before Texas State pulled away with 13 unanswered points in the second quarter and a 27-10 lead at halftime.

Texas State would shut down the Houston offense in the second half, with the Cougars managing just one third-down conversion on the game and only 15 first downs overall.

Box Score Hero: Texas State running back Marcus Curry had 131 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns, including one receiving touchdown on the night.

Rankings Ramifications: Houston was unranked in the preseason and the loss may affect their ability to jump into the top 25 later in the season.

But Did They Cover? Houston was a 34 1/2 point favorite over the Bobcats, and failed to cover. Obviously.
