Shawney Kersey Leaving Penn State, According To Reports

Penn State wide receiver Shawney Kersey is the latest Nittany Lion to reportedly leave State College.

Shawney Kersey has apparently left the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. Jeff Rice of 247Sports reports for the Penn State team site.

The decision is strange because Kersey was in the receiving rotation this season. He had caught six passes for 44 yards in his first two games, including five catches for 35 yards in a 24-14 loss to Ohio the opening week of the football season. Kersey has struggled with drops though, including a huge touchdown drop that could have helped the Nittany Lions secure the victory. This actually isn’t the first time Kersey has been rumored to leave the team; the receiver nearly left Penn State due to a lack of playing time in 2010.

SB Nation site Black Shoe Diaries reports that that there are two potential replacements for Kersey. Matt Zanellato and Trevor Williams are the potential Nittany Lions who could be upgraded to the third receiver spot that Kersey would have vacated. Allen Robinson (19 catches, 186 yards, one touchdown) and Alex Kenney (five catches, 71 yards) are the top two wideouts in the Penn State rotation at the moment.

Talk about Kersey’s depature with Penn State fans by heading on over to Black Shoe Diaries.
