Florida State Vs. Wake Forest: Betting Odds, Preview And Prediction

Wake Forest has a nice run going against Florida State, and they are 6-2 ATS in the past eight meetings against them. So with the point spread at -28, Wake bettors are supporting their team Saturday.

Two 2-0 teams, one that was fully expected to win its first two games, the other not so much, meet for an ACC conference bout as the Florida State Seminoles host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons Saturday afternoon (noon ET, ESPN).

FSU is off to a 2-0 start to this season, outscoring its two opponents by a combined 124-3. Of course, those two opponents were Murray State and Savannah State, so we shouldn’t read too much into that.

Wake Forest, meanwhile, enjoys a 3-1 ATS mark in its past four trips here and 6-2 ATS in eight games overalll against the Seminoles. So getting 28 points on the college football odds menu at most shops tracked by OddsShark.com is tempting for Wake backers.

Florida State returned nine starters on defense this season, including the entire front four, from a unit that limited foes to 275 YPG last year. So the ‘Noles are going to be hard to move the ball on again.

With their victories the Seminoles have moved up from No. 7 in the AP pre-season poll to No. 6 last week to No. 5 this week.

Wake Forest, meanwhile, opened its season with a 20-17 victory over Liberty, although the Deacons came nowhere close to covering the spread as 25-point favorites. Then last week Wake scored with two minutes to go upset North Carolina 28-27 as 10-point home dogs.

So the Deacons are 2-0 overall and 1-0 in ACC play.

But Wake returned just 11 starters this year, just four on offense and just one along the offensive line.

This game has seen some line movement. Earlier this week many online sportsbooks opened Florida State at -24 or -24.5, but as of Friday morning the ‘Noles have been bet up to -28 at some CFB betting outlets.

Wake Forest has actually taken four of the last six games in the series with Florida State. Last year the Deacons, as 10-point home dogs, led almost the whole way, racking up 391 yards of offense and taking advantage of five FSU turnovers, on their way to a 35-30 upset victory in Winston-Salem.

Free Pick: We don’t like going with the flow, but Florida State should dominate this game. The danger is the dreaded back-door cover and we see Wake hanging around enough to cover the 28 points.
