The West Virginia Mountaineers handled their business against the James Madison Dukes, winning 42-12 at FedEx Field on Saturday evening. Geno Smith led the way for West Virginia. The senior was absolutely unflappable throughout the day, hitting on 34-of-39 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns.

Smith had some help from a dynamic duo on the outside in Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin. Bailey led all receivers with 173 yards on 13 receptions to accompany his three touchdown grabs. Not to be outdone, Austin hauled in 11 passes for 113 yards and a score of his own.
The Mountaineers’ passing defense was quite impressive as well, limiting the Dukes to 112 yards in the air.
Box Score Hero: Geno Smith. It’s almost impossible to have a better day than Smith enjoyed against James Madison. The Heisman hopeful was sublime, completing 34-of-39 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Rankings Affect: West Virginia certainly helped its cause for moving up. Depending on what happens ahead of them, the Mountaineers have an opportunity to climb the ladder.
Did They Cover?: Despite being a 32.5 point favorite, West Virginia was able to cover the spread.
Next Week: The Mountaineers will take on the Maryland Terrapins at home while the Dukes travel to oppose the Rhode Island Rams.
