Wisconsin Football: Joel Stave Reportedly Starting Vs. UTEP

Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bret Bielema has reportedly decided that freshman Joel Stave will start at quarterback for the Badgers on Saturday against UTEP, reports Tom Oates of the Wisconsin State Journal. Bielema benched junior quarterback Danny O'Brien in favor of Stave last week during the team's tense home win over Utah State and announced to the Mendota Gridiron Club on Wednesday night that Stave will get the start.

Stave stepped in during the second half against Utah State and went 2-for-6 for 15 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Meanwhile, O’Brien has completed 62.0 percent of his passes (44-for-71) for 454 yards, three touchdowns and one interceptions so far in 2012.

The Badgers have been underwhelming so far this season, and the bold move from Bielema is a sign that things haven’t been good enough on offense.
