The No. 3 Ducks open the conference season with critics pointing to a weak schedule while the Wildcats already have a strong resume-building win against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their back pocket. But for a UA team still lacking in depth and still learning Rodriguez’s offense along with Jeff Casteel’s 3-3-5 defense, how well will the Wildcats compete with Oregon’s speed and pace?
Defense aside, UA quarterback Matt Scott will have to lead his team with precision if they hope to hang with the points De'Anthony Thomas and his Oregon crew likely put up.
And an equally interesting story lies on the sideline, where two coaches who have traded ideas with one another in the past finally go head-to-head.
It’s the first test for the Ducks, and the first opportunity for Chip Kelly’s squad to prove that the No. 3 ranking, despite the schedule, is well deserved. For Arizona, it’s just another chance to show fans that the recovery from the Mike Stoops era is moving along faster than first anticipated.
