Vincent Smith tried throwing a football coming out of the backfield. It did not turn out well. But it was the main Michigan quarterback who really struggled with accuracy and command under pressure.
Then Denard Robinson threw one interception that was picked by Manti Te'o, setting up a Kyle Brindza 33-yard field goal. Two more interceptions (including Teo's second pick of the game) helped set up Notre Dame for their second score, as the Fighting Irish eventually capitalized for a touchdown. Robinson would lead Michigan on a better-looking drive in the third quarter, but Denard's fumble killed a huge Michigan scoring chance in this one. Michigan's turnovers gave them a very remote chance at what had once been a very winnable contest.
