2013 NFL Draft Monday mailbag: Mike Glennon or Aaron Murray?

Scott Cunningham

After a week off due to the holidays, the Monday mailbag is back. Plenty of questions to get to, so let’s jump right into it.

Note: If you want to have a question answered in the Monday mailbag, you can email me, contact me on Twitter@MatthewFairburn, or comment in the article below. I’ll answer every question you guys send me and include the best ones in this column every week leading up to the draft.

From @TheKickisGood: Unnamed team needs stud QB to snap 13 year playoff drought: Glennon or Murray? (assuming Murray comes out)

I strongly prefer Mike Glennon to Aaron Murray. Glennon has ideal size and arm talent for the position and possesses outstanding deep accuracy. My biggest issue with Glennon is that he tends to really struggle with accuracy and decision making under pressure. Murray struggles with accuracy and decision making regardless of pressure. I'm not sure if Murray will enter the draft, but I wouldn't go near him in the first two rounds based on what I've seen this season.

From @BJamming86: What are your thoughts on Tyler Wilson and when do you think he gets picked?

I recently spent quite a bit of time watching Tyler Wilson. I saw a lot of things I liked and some that I really didn’t. He’s got a strong arm for one and is a solid athlete. Reports are that he will impress with his football IQ, and he is willing to take shots down field. He has some serious lapses in his footwork, accuracy and decision making that threw up some red flags, though. That type of stuff can often be fixed, but it’s enough to push him to the late first round/early second round range.

From @abaernocne22: In what round and who at quarterback do you have the Jaguars drafting?

Right now I’m thinking Miami Ohio’s Zac Dysert in round two. I doubt Geno Smith is still on the board when the Jaguars are picking in round two, and Dysert offers a ton of upside in round two. He also has a very good chance to still be around in the second round. He throws an excellent deep ball and does a good job of extending plays with his feet while keeping his eyes down field.

From @gang_green4life: What position do the Jets go in the first round? Do they just go BPA?

The Jets will almost have to go best player available. I doubt a quarterback worth the pick will be sitting there at No. 9 given the amount of quarterback-needy teams ahead of them. An impact pass rusher makes the most sense for New York at that spot. Jarvis Jones would be an interesting schematic fit and an instant jolt to that defense.

From @OllyDawes: What do you think of Oregon State wide receiver Markus Wheaton?

Markus Wheaton is an interesting day two prospect with quite a bit of upside. He’s a smooth athlete who will continue to rise throughout the process. His soft hands stick out when watching Oregon State.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
