The first half at the 2013 Senior Bowl was dominated by the South team in the early going, as Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel led the team to two touchdowns in the first quarter to give the South a 14-0 lead over the North team that they carried into halftime.

After Southeastern Louisiana's Robert Alford returned the opening kickoff of the game 88 yards to the 6-yard line, Manuel took advantage with a 2-yard rushing touchdown just three plays later. After an unsuccessful drive for the North team, led by NC State quarterback Mike Glennon, Manuel led a nine-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Alabama tight end Michael Williams.
The North team quarterbacks struggled to get much going, as Glennon led the group with just 4-of-10 passes completed for just 26 yards. Syracuse's Ryan Nassib completed just 2-of-6 passes for 18 yards and an interception, while Miami (Ohio)'s Zac Dysert completed 1-of-5 first half pass attempts for six yards and also finished with an interception.
Drawing plenty of praise in the first half was BYU defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, as "Ziggy" made multiple plays in run defense and combined with Georgia' Cornelius Washington for a sack of Dysert that also resulted in fumble. Neal Driscoll of MiamIDolphinsDraft.com called Ansah the best player of the first half.
