NFL Draft 2013: Mike Glennon prospect profile

At 6-7, Mike Glennon’s height is something that will instantly draw the eyes of scouts.

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE

The quarterback class isn’t a particularly strong one and some have even suggested that there isn’t a passer worth a first-round selection. However, due to the nature of the position alone, it seems unlikely that a team isn’t going to reach for a talented prospect in the first 32 picks.

Among those talented prospects is NC State's Mike Glennon; a player that certainly looks the part at 6'7, 220 pounds, but wasn't particularly productive with the Wolfpack. Regardless, his talent could justify a pick in the first round.

Pros:

- At 6’7, 220 pounds, Glennon clearly has the height to see over the offensive line.

- Glennon has plenty of arm strength and impressed Arrowhead Pride’s B.J. Kissel at the Senior Bowl with his ability to throw deep.

- A scouting report on NEPatriotsDraft notes that Glennon is a very intelligent quarterback with experience in a pro-style offense and goes through his reads well without locking in on a receiver.

- I bet he could throw a pigskin over them mountains.

Cons:

- NEPatriotsDraft notes that Glennon struggles to move around in the pocket and has “slow feet.”

- Glennon has the tendency to look at the rush and “will fall off throws” to protect himself from a hit, according to National Football Post.

- While he has adequate arm strength, most say it isn’t great and not at the level you’d want from a traditional pocket passer.

Quotables:

- A scouting report from National Football Post.

NC State QB Mike Glennon is your typical tall, strong-armed pocket passer who has some limitations because of his lacking foot quickness and athleticism. There is no doubt he can make all the throws from a solid base. However, his ball placement really struggles when he gets lazy with his footwork and throws flat-footed.

- Profile via CBSSports.com:

This quarterback class is going to give NFL teams headaches as they try to sift through the talent, yet there is inconsistency among the top prospects. And Glennon might have been the most talented, but streaky prospect at the Senior Bowl. Glennon’s highlight reel looks like video of a sure-fire top pick, but he needs to continue to eliminate the mistakes in order to make those highlights a consistent part of his game.

College info/stats:

- Glennon was an All-ACC honorable mention in 2012 after entering the season on the Manning, Maxwell and O’Brien award watch lists. He became the first NC State quarterback to throw for 30 or more touchdowns in two seasons, but was far from breaking Philip Rivers’ record for career touchdown passes at the school (98).

2013 NFL Combine performance:

Glennon is a prospect with great height and enough arm strength to make noise in the NFL, but didn’t do much at the combine to show that he’s anything more than that. He measured in at a fraction of an inch over 6’7 and was among the quarterback prospects with the longest arms and largest hands at the combine.

However, he didn’t offer much more in drills and wasn’t particularly great in throwing drills. The showing neither helped or hurt Glennon, ultimately.
