Mel Kiper: Auburn’s Greg Robinson a ‘stud’

Don’t know much about Auburn’s redshirt sophomore left tackle? Time to find out.

Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports

Introducing Greg Robinson.

Don’t know him? If 9-1 Auburn keeps winning, he’s likely to become a household name.

A redshirt sophomore left tackle, Robinson came in at No. 22 on Mel Kiper’s most recent ESPN.com big board.

That puts Robinson No. 5 among offensive tackles. In his quick evaluation, Kiper said Robinson has been “dominant” due to increased strength he could “become a special player at tackle.”

Before Kiper’s ranking, Robinson has largely been an under-the-radar player. After fall camp, Auburn defensive end Dee Ford referred to Robinson as a “future first-rounder,” but even he couldn’t have seen the notoriety coming this soon.

Robinson is in his second year starting at left tackle for the surprise team in college football and has done well for himself. While Robinson may not be a fleet-footed left tackle like Eric Fisher or Lane Johnson, he plays with a strong base and capable of getting out on the move. In particular, Auburn likes to use him wide outside on the unique “Batman” two-point conversion.

“Greg Robinson is the stud of that line,” Kiper said during a Thursday conference call. “He’s one of the elite left tackles, his star is rising, his arrow is up. He keeps moving up and up and up and he’ll have a decision to make at the end of the year. We’ll see what his decision is, but he’s a heck of a football player.”
