2014 NFL Draft running back rankings

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

As it seems to be every year, the running back class is deep but maybe doesn’t have a player worthy of being a first-round pick. But fear not financial advisers to running backs, five were taken in the second round this year and that could happen again in 2014.

We continue to have Lache Seastrunk as the top running back. While there could be questions about the system at Baylor making things easy for running backs, he has the speed to break a run deep at any time. There's enough vision, shiftiness and power to push him ahead of the other running backs.

Bishop Sankey of Washington rates highly not because of speed, but because of his determined running style. Although he's just more than 200 pounds, he's a tough tackle and always seems to get extra yards after contact. For a bigger back, Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin runs with the fluidity of a 190-pound speedster. He may rise to the top of rankings before everything is said and done.

The big riser for now, though, is Andre Williams of Boston College. The nation’s leader in rushing is a legit NFL prospect because of his strong running style and enough speed to hit long runs.
