George Uko declares for NFL Draft

The junior lineman is headed for the next level, choosing not to stay for his senior year at USC.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

USC Trojans junior defensive lineman George Uko will forego his senior year and enter the 2014 NFL Draft. Uko confirmed the decision on his Twitter page.

The 6'3, 275-pound lineman finished his junior year with five sacks, seven tackles for a loss and a forced fumble. In his last game, he recorded just one tackle in the Trojans' 45-20 win over Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Recruited as a defensive tackle, he spent time at both that position and at defensive end. He had solid production under defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, but new coaches Steve Sarkisian and Justin Wilcox are expected to switch to a 3-4. The Trojans have had a number of juniors jump to the pros due to the coaching transition, including center Marcus Martin and safety Dion Bailey.

Uko ranks 12th among defensive tackles in Mocking The Draft's latest rankings. He was a four-star recruit out of Chino, Calif. At the time, Yahoo! Sports made a pro comparison to Buccaneers star Gerald McCoy.
