A year after allowing fans to attend the NFL Scouting Combine for the first time in 2012, the NFL has expanded fan access to the event from one day to two.

Hundreds of fans will be given free tickets to the NFL Combine as part of a contest held by the NFL. Last year, only one day of the event was open to fans, this year, it will be two.

For those who aren’t satisfied by watching the intense coverage of players performing drills on television, it’s an option to go see them do it in person. But its not money or connections that will get you in: the NFL is having a contest through 1iota.com, where fans are asked to request tickets via a short essay indicating why they’re the fan that most deserves to attend the combine. Last year, the league selected the top 300 for an inside peek at the events at Lucas Oil Stadium, but demand was apparently high enough that they’ll be doubling that number this year.
It’s not like attending will get them the best view -- first off, the field is ringed by scouts and other football front office people, with fans a low priority for good viewing -- and secondly, cameras providing zoomed-in coverage broadcast the event on the NFL Network. But a process that used to be entirely behind closed doors is now popular among fans as they look to get the best insight into the decision their teams make, and now, people want to see the combine first hand.
Those fans will get to see 40-yard dash drills by either the quarterbacks and wide receivers or the offensive linemen and tight ends -- the former is more important, I’d rather watch the latter to watch the big guys hustle -- as well as positional drills.
