There has never been a female NFL player, but for the first time ever, there’s a woman who is going to give it a shot. Lauren Silberman is going to participate in the New Jersey regional combine on March 2-3 as a kicker after playing club soccer at the University of Wisconsin.

Silberman, 28, is certainly a long-shot, but she has aspirations to make an impact in the NFL and told NFL.com that she hopes there is a place for her in the league:
“The opportunity to attend this event could not be more exciting. Getting to meet interesting people and perfect my technique from others could not be more rewarding. ... Regardless of the outcome of the tryout, I hope there is a way I can contribute and strengthen the league,” Silberman said.
The New Jersey regional combine is one of 10 regional combines, from which the top players will be invited to a super-regional combine in Dallas. Making an impact in the regional combines and earning a place on an NFL roster is an unlikely path, but it's not unheard of, as Greg Zuerlein managed to stick out in the regional combines in 2012. Zuerlein went on to earn the starting kicking job for the St. Louis Rams.
The Dallas super-regional is scheduled for Sunday, April 7.
