NFL Combine 2013 bench press results: Ohio’s Eric Herman leads class

The first workouts of this year’s Combine got underway with the bench press Friday.

USA TODAY Sports

Offensive guard Eric Herman set the pace in the bench press at the NFL Combine on Friday. Herman, a former lineman for the Ohio Bobcats, completed 36 reps Friday as the offensive linemen and tight ends took the stage at the annual workout in Indianapolis.

Herman, projected by CBSsports.com to be a sixth- or seventh-round selection, finished one rep higher than projected first-round guard Jonathan Cooper and former Youngstown State guard Lamar Mady. Mady is not on CBS's projected draft board.

Former Rice Owls tight end Vance McDonald led his position group with 31 reps. Stanford's Zach Ertz was second with 24 reps, and Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert was third with 22 reps. Ertz and Eifert are projected by CBS to be the first two tight ends selected in April's draft -- both within the first two rounds.

Each player is given the task of completing reps at 225 pounds. The Combine's all-time record is 51 reps, which former Eastern Kentucky defensive tackle Justin Earnest set in 1999. Defensive tackle Stephen Paea, currently with the Chicago Bears, had 49 reps in 2011 as a prospect out of Oregon State.
