2013 NFL Combine: John Jenkins weighed 370 pounds during SEC Championship

Jenkins has since cut down to 346 pounds for the NFL Scouting Combine.

When Alabama and Georgia met for the SEC Championship, Georgia defensive tackle John Jenkins had let his weight get a little out of control. Despite being listed in the 350-pound range, Jenkins said on Saturday that he weighed 370 pounds during that game.

Jenkins knows his weight is going to be a concern for NFL teams, but after weighing in at 346 pounds at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine, Jenkins doesn’t think teams have anything to worry about.

“That’s the biggest issue out of anything is my weight,” Jenkins said. “I tell them they have nothing to worry about. That’s the only time I’ve ever weighed that high in my life. Now I’m educated enough to know to keep my weight down and that’s where I want to be to be able to get the job done.”

“It was just a certain situation that led me to 370, but I’m more of a 340 guy,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins went into detail discussing his new diet, which involves shakes made with water, fresh fruit and protein. He also has a strict schedule he sticks to when eating throughout the day.

“It’s all about the portions with what you eat,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins, who wants to model his game after Vince Wilfork and Kris Jenkins, knows he has to prove his stamina, but with the weight loss, he doesn’t think that will be an issue.

“I just want to show that I can be put in any situation and be able to complete the job,” Jenkins said. “I want to show that I’m a three-down guy and can be a three-down guy throughout the game.”

While Jenkins’ emphasis has been on getting lighter and more in shape, he knows his size is what’s going to help make him successful in the NFL.

“My strength is going to carry me a long way.”
