NFL Draft 2013: Teams to work Terron Armstead at tight end

Intrigued by his blazing fast 40-yard dash time, NFL teams are interested in working out Arkansas Pine-Bluff tackle Terron Armstead at tight end during his Pro Day.

USA TODAY Sports

When a player runs the fastest 40-yard dash recorded at his position, NFL teams take note. Enter tackle Terron Armstead of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, who ran his 40 in an impressive 4.71 seconds and also performed well in other drills. As is often the case with players who weren't highly rated before the combine, but demonstrate tremendous athleticism, Armstead is getting looks at other positions, specifically tight end according to Gil Brandt.

At 6'5, 306 pounds, Armstead would be a large tight end, but athletically he would be right on par with other 2013 prospects. Comparing his 40-yard dash time to the tight ends at the combine, Armstead would have been the seventh fastest. He also would have tied the top tight end in bench press and finished sixth in the vertical jump among tight ends.

Armstead was ranked as the 19th tackle prospect in the Mocking the Draft position rankings from January, but has risen since then. If it turns out he can run routes and catch passes, he could rise even higher as a tight end project.
