UCLA pro day: Players scheduled to work out on March 12

Datone Jones and Johnathan Franklin are coming off strong performances at the NFL Scouting Combine and have a chance to improve their stock even further at UCLA’s Pro Day March 12.

USA TODAY Sports

Defensive end Datone Jones showed off his agility at the NFL Combine and running back Johnathan Franklin showed off his speed. Now both UCLA products will have a chance to show it wasn't a fluke at UCLA's Pro Day on March 12.

There weren’t that many elite prospects at last year’s UCLA Pro Day - and Jim Mora made a bit of a gaffe by not allowing parents to watch their children work out - but both Jones and Franklin should be gone in the first half of the NFL Draft.

Jones is a probable first-rounder - Dan Kadar projecting him going 25th overall to Seattle in his most recent mock draft, a possibility Seahawks blog Field Gulls analyzed - while Franklin is expected to be taken in the second or third round. In Indianapolis, the 6’4, 285-pounder ran a 4.32 in the 20-yard shuttle - third amongst defensive linemen - and also benched 29 reps at 225 pounds. His dash was pretty average at 4.80 seconds.

At 5'10 and 205 pounds, on the small side for an NFL running back, Franklin showed his quickness at the combine. His 4.49 40 time was well off the best result at his position, Onterio McCalebb's 4.34, but was still good for the fourth-best among running backs. His 11.33 in the 60-yard shuttle was tied for the best at the position with Kenjon Barner.

Also performing at UCLA's pro day will be guard Jeff Baca, a likely late-round pick who was second-team all-Pac 12 this past year, and 6'7 tight end Joseph Fauria - the nephew of former NFL TE Christian - who was only able to participate in the bench press at the combine. Cornerback Aaron Hester and punter Jeff Locke also performed at the combine, but neither is expected to be drafted.
