Oklahoma Pro Day featured most of the same names that went to Indianapolis for the 2013 NFL Combine, including quarterback Landry Jones, left tackle Lane Johnson, wide receiver Kenny Stills and linebacker Tom Wort. Defensive lineman Stacy McGee was forced to sit out with an injured foot.
Oklahoma Pro Day results: Defensive backs take opportunity show off
The big names were all out for Oklahoma’s pro day Wednesday, but the stars of the day were defensive backs Demontre Hurst, Reggie Smith and Jesse Paulsen. Big numbers could lead to a big rise up draft boards.

Jones was perhaps the most closely watched player of the day. He had the most to gain, after doing little to improve his stock in Indianapolis. Jones did not run the 40, deciding instead to let his awkward attempt at the Combine stand as is. He did throw, however, and performed well, with some scouts saying he could rise up draft boards.
Johnson, of course, is almost assured a first-round pick in late April. He has risen precipitously up draft boards since the end of the Sooners’ season, culminating in an impressive show of athleticism and technical skill in Indianapolis. Johnson sat out testing Wednesday, but did weigh in. He measure at 6’6, 310 pounds, and showed off an impressive 83-inch wingspan.
Stills addressed concerns about his speed in Indianapolis by running a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash, which ranked fourth among wide receivers. He let the time stand as is Wednesday.
Wort, however, had a lot of potential room to rise after not finishing near the top of his position in any drill at the Combine save for an impressive 12.36-second time in the 60-yard shuttle. On Wednesday, he chose to focus on the 40-yard dash and clocked in at 4.75 seconds, just a hair faster than the 4.78 he posted in Indianapolis.
More notes:
- The big winners of the day were clearly the defensive backs. Cornerback Demontre Hurst was one of the fastest players on the day, reportedly running a 4.45 and a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash. He also jumped more than 10 feet in the broad jump.
- Reggie Smith was the absolute fastest player of the day, posting a 4.31 in the 40-yard dash. He also led all players with a 41-inch vertical jump .
- Defensive back Jesse Paulsen also put on an impressive physical display at pro day, posting a broad jump of 11'2 and a vertical of 39.5 inches to go along with a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash.
- Defensive lineman David King looked good on his first attempt at the 40-yard dash, clocking in at 4.72 seconds. Unfortunately, he had to pull up on his second attempt due to an apparent hamstring issue. He did not participate in individual drills afterwards.
- Defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland did not test well in the 40, finishing with the slowest time of the day at 5.38 seconds. He was much better in the vertical jump, however, reaching 31.5 inches.
