NFL Draft 2013: Eagles could pick Geno Smith

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly says he wouldn’t shy away from adding another quarterback to the fold with the fourth overall selection.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a pair of quarterbacks on the roster but could make it a crowded field by adding West Virginia's Geno Smith to the fold. Head coach Chip Kelly didn't rule out the possibility on Wednesday, according to Zach Berman of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Michael Vick is the presumed starter for the team after he re-structured his deal to a one-year contract with the Eagles. But he has Nick Foles, the team's third-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, to compete with. After Vick went down with an injury, Foles stepped in and didn't overwhelm, but showed signs of promise.

Smith, 22, is considered the consensus top quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft and would be the Eagles selection if he’s the top player available when it’s their turn to pick, Kelly told Berman. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman echoed that sentiment as well on Tuesday.

“It’s the most important position in football,” Roseman told Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly. “If you’re telling me that the worst thing we can have on our football team is we have a bunch of good players at the quarterback position, where do I sign up?”

However, one of the biggest questions will be if he's even available by the time the Eagles are on the clock with the fourth selection. Both the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders, owners of the second and third picks, respectively, have shown considerable interest in Smith and are logical landing spots.

In his senior season with the Mountaineers, Smith completed 71.2 percent of his passes for 4,198 yards with 42 touchdowns and six interceptions.
