2013 NFL mock draft: Eric Fisher to Philadelphia Eagles

Exactly how will Chip Kelly’s presence influence the Eagles’ top pick?

USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are now a show run by Chip Kelly, and in the immediate future it’s tough to spot a more intriguing team than the one in Philly. When it comes to the No. 4 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, offensive line reinforcements and a former player of Kelly’s, pass rusher Dion Jordan, have been the primary focus this pre-draft season. How will Kelly’s presence influence the pick?

Pick Player Position Height Weight Class

Jason Brewer: "If either of the top tackles fell to the Eagles, I think they’d be pretty happy, but especially so with Eric Fisher. As a better athlete than Luke Joeckel, Fisher should fit the more up-tempo style that Chip Kelly is likely to want to play.

"Plus, it’s a need. The Eagles’ offensive line struggled last year largely thanks to injuries to four out of five starters, but that’s exactly why help is needed. There are no guarantees all come back healthy, and even if they do, Fisher still should represent an upgrade. If Jason Peters is ready to go at LT (a big "if"), Fisher could certainly slot over at RT for a few years. That would also allow the team to move Todd Herremans back inside, where he’s been more effective than he was at RT.

"There are a number of guys I considered with this pick, most notably Geno Smith and Dion Jordan. Smith is obviously gone in this mock draft. As for Jordan, he’s a popular name among Eagles fans, but I don’t think a linebacker who is not a particularly accomplished pass rusher is really worth this spot. Everyone gets enamored with his potential and athleticism, but seems to ignore the fact that he just doesn't make plays."

Here’s our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:

Like many teams picking in the Top 10, there will be a decision made between an offensive tackle and a defensive front seven player with potential. Fisher is a better pick here. He’s not only a safer pick, but he can make more of an immediate impact for Philadelphia. Whether he’s on the right or left side, Fisher can start for the Eagles straight away. The real upside for Philadelphia getting a player like Fisher is his high upside level. He’s only scratching the surface of his ability and size.

Coming up at Noon ET: the No. 5 overall pick, made by Pride of Detroit for the Detroit Lions, will be unveiled.
