NFL Draft 2013: Chiefs visiting Luke Joeckel, Lane Johnson, according to report
Kansas City making trips to see a couple of the best offensive tackle prospects? You don’t say.

We don't know for sure, yet, who they'll be taking in a draft that will depend heavily on individual team needs, but Chiefs' brass, including head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey, are taking trips to Texas A&M and Oklahoma to work out two of the draft's top prospects, offensive tackles Luke Joeckel and Lane Johnson, according to The Sideline View's Adam Caplan. So while we still don't really know much, Kansas City definitely seems to have a type, as of right now.
Trading for quarterback Alex Smith seemingly wiped away the need to take one at the top spot, possibly West Virginia’s Geno Smith, so speculation swirling around the Chiefs has shifted from what appeared to be an obvious need into a slightly murkier situation.
So the news that the higher-ups in Kansas City are all traveling to see Joeckel and Johnson on consecutive trips is both obvious -- a team with the first selection should probably check out two of the draft’s top 15 prospects -- but also potentially telling because, well, they’re presumably doing this pointed research for a reason. If you’re wondering, Kansas City surrendered 40 sacks in 2012, the 11th-highest total in the NFL.
SB Nation’s Matthew Fairburn sees the Chiefs picking Joeckel -- our (obviously) top-rated offensive tackle -- with their top selection. A prediction that could be further strengthened or muddled after Kansas City does its due diligence.
