NFL Draft 2013: Titans, Cowboys visit with Kenny Vaccaro

Would Kenny Vaccaro be a fit for the Titans or Cowboys?

USA TODAY Sports

Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro will meet with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday, the last of his private workouts, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. George adds that Vaccaro met with the Dallas Cowboys last week and has not worked out for any others.

SB Nation’s Dan Kadar projects the Cowboys to select Vaccaro with the 18th overall pick in his latest mock draft. Texas Longhorns blog Barking Carnival praises the safety as “one of the greatest and most rare athletes” to play under defensive backs coach Duane Akina.

Vaccaro could find immediate playing time with the Cowboys, who are short on safeties. Barry Church and Matt Johnson are projected as the starters, with Danny McCray the lone experienced backup. McCray started the bulk of last season, but has played most of his three-year career on special teams.

Cowboys blog Blogging the Boys would like the team to sign a veteran safey to a one-year deal, but it appears the team is looking to fill that void through the draft instead.

If the Titans truly want Vaccaro, he will likely be available at the No. 10 pick. Tennessee has already done work this offseason revamping their secondary, signing safeties Bernard Pollard and George Wilson. Both are coming off seasons where they were starters and figure to be in the mix along with Michael Griffin and his five-year contract.

The move would be surprising, due in large part to Tennessee’s free agent activity, to Titans blog Music City Miracles. However, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad move for the team, given the age of the signings and the disappointment thus far from Griffin.

If he is looking for immediate playing time, Vaccaro may wish to fall to Dallas at No. 18. Tennessee’s defensive backfield is crowded at the moment, and would be a tough nut to crack. Long term, the situation would get better in Tennessee. Pollard signed a one-year and Wilson a two-year deal.

Either way, it seems likely that he will be headed to one of those franchises, as he has held private meetings with no other clubs.
