2013 NFL mock draft: Jonathan Cooper to Dallas Cowboys

Finally, some O-Line help for Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray.

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

The Dallas Cowboys need help on their offensive line. Most followers of the NFL Draft agree that there are five offensive line prospects that are early-first round caliber. As it happens, one of those five is still on the board for Blogging the Boys’ pick in this mock draft of ours...

Team Player Position Height Weight Class
18. Dallas Cowboys Jonathan Cooper, Dallas OG 6'2" 311 SR

Dave Halprin: "The Cowboys offensive line, especially on the right side, has been a major problem. Mackenzy Bernadeau was signed as a free agent in 2012 and started at right guard, but was terribly inconsistent, and he’s battled injuries with another one this offseason. The Cowboys running game was a huge disappointment in 2012, even with stud DeMarco Murray in the lineup. Dallas has to get their run game restarted and protect Tony Romo. Adding the talented Cooper should help that cause."

Here’s our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:

Some have said that the athletic Cooper isn’t a fit for the power-based Dallas offensive line. Those same people probably said that Tyron Smith wouldn’t fit in Dallas either. The bottom line here is that there are five really good offensive linemen in the draft this year and Cooper is the last one available. To get him with the 18th pick would be a steal. No matter the team he goes to, Cooper is likely an immediate starter. On Dallas, he could become the team’s top offensive lineman straight away.

We’ve got three more picks to go this week, with the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals all on deck for tomorrow.
