2013 NFL Draft quarterback rankings

Chris Graythen

There’s no use in finding some fancy way to say or to look for positives on this one. The quarterback group in the 2013 NFL Draft is a bad class. While no prospect is ever going to be flawless, there are major questions about every quarterback in the draft this year.

The one with the least questions is Geno Smith. Because of that, he’s the top quarterback this year. He’s a good player, but may never be a superstar in the NFL. Matt Barkley of Southern California needs to land in the perfect spot to be successful in the NFL. Players like Mike Glennon and Tyler Bray may need some time to develop. Tyler Wilson is gutty, but has tiny hands. Ryan Nassib doesn’t put touch on his passes consistently enough. E.J. Manuel struggles reading defenses and has bad ball placement at times.

This year, NFL teams may find a quarterback they like and take him on the third day of the draft. Someone like Matt Scott is the perhaps best diamond in the rough quarterback. Others prefer Ryan Griffin of Tulane. There’s also Landry Jones of Oklahoma. If his work with quarterback guru George Whitfield is beneficial, he has the natural tools to succeed.

The quarterback class is a mystery and how they’ll fall defines just how crazy this year’s draft will be.
