2013 NFL draft buzz: Tyrann Mathieu failed a lot of tests, Miami looking for offensive tackle

The most prominent NFL Draft news of Friday? Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu failed at least 10 drug tests at LSU. Read on for more on that and what else went down on Friday/

USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 NFL Draft is just around the corner, and the stock reports for many of the top prospects will be all over the place. Now is the time that we hear about individual players and specific teams’ interest in those players, and it’s an essentially nonstop news cycle.

Below, we’ll cover some of the biggest news and more interesting news that’s NFL Draft-related from Friday.

Mathieu failed ... a lot of tests

To get started, the almost ludicrous news that former LSU Tigers cornerback/returner Tyrann Mathieu failed at least 10 drug tests during his time in college. Most accurately, Mathieu was reported as saying that he "stopped counting" how many tests he failed after 10. So ... at least he's being honest about it?

Miami wants to trade for offensive tackle

The Miami Dolphins have a very poor offensive line. Jonathan Martin is a solid starter at tackle, but there are holes along the interior and at the other tackle position. It was reported on Friday that the Dolphins are prepared to make a trade, in whatever direction they need to, in order to land the player that they want. With second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill hoping to build on his rookie campaign, few would argue with heavy spending on the offensive line.

Philly cancels visit with Milliner

Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner will not be visiting the Philadelphia Eagles after all. It was reported that the Eagles themselves canceled a pre-draft workout with Milliner, for unknown reasons. The Eagles hold the No. 4 pick in the draft and have visited with plenty other top names in college football. This likely means there are at least four players that the Eagles want to take more than Milliner.

Cooper, Warmack on equal ground?

Alabama's Chance Warmack and North Carolina's Jonathan Cooper may both hold the title of top offensive guard prospect. Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reported on Friday that it's roughly a "50-50 split" in regards to teams around the league preferring one over the other. When this offseason got underway, it was clearly Warmack at No. 1 and Cooper at No. 2. Now ... not so much.

Brooks cautions against taking Cyprien in first round

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com spent some time talking about overrated prospects on Friday, and there were some surprising names. While Tavon Austin will probably end up being good, some could argue with how far his hype has progressed, but two interesting names on his list are Utah DT Star Lotulelei and Florida International S John Cyprien. Brooks says Cyprien isn’t worth a first-round pick, despite being consistently mocked in the first.
