NFL Draft 2013: Dee Milliner visits Titans, Chiefs

The former Crimson Tide defensive back had a breakout season as a junior and may be the first player at his position selected in the draft.

Former Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner is set to meet with the Tennessee Titans on Monday and the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, according to a report. Milliner is the top NFL prospect at his position in the estimation of SB Nation’s Dan Kadar and could be a top-ten pick in the draft.

Milliner is coming off a season in which he earned first-team All-SEC and All-American honors. He finished 2012 with 51 tackles, 18 passes broken up and two interceptions. That production made him a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back.

At 6’0 and 201 pounds, Milliner has good size for his position, and he ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Here’s a breakdown of his skills:

Milliner has all of the physical tools NFL teams covet at the cornerback position. He showed off his speed at the combine, but it really shows up on the field when Milliner is forced to close on the football. His combination of speed and instincts help him excel in that area, and Milliner is a strong fit in a zone coverage scheme for this reason. He is able to read plays quickly and has the quick-twitch athleticism to break on the ball in a hurry.

Milliner was part of a Crimson Tide team that finished 2012 ranked first nationally in total defense and seventh in pass efficiency defense.
