NFL Draft 2013: Cowboys focus on offensive linemen

The Cowboys will be hosting several of the NFL Draft’s top interior offensive line prospects prior to April’s draft.

US PRESSWIRE

The Dallas Cowboys are turning their attention to the 2013 NFL Draft, with little cap room left to make major improvements through free agency. The offensive line has been a focus in particular, with visits scheduled with several of the draft's big-name road graders, according to Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan.

The interior line appears to be of major concern. UNC's Jonathan Cooper, Wisconsin's Travis Frederick, Syracuse's Justin Pugh and Alabama's Chance Warmack, all of whom are capable of playing offensive guard, have or will be meeting with Dallas. Alabama right tackle D.J. Fluker has been connected to the Cowboys in the past, though Fisher reports that he did not appear on the team's confirmed visitors list.

The Cowboys were relatively good at protecting Tony Romo last season, ranking 10th in the NFL in adjusted sack rate, according to Football Outsiders. They ranked just 22nd in adjusted rushing yards gained by the offensive line, however. A stronger interior line would a long ways towards rectifying a running game that ranked 31st in the NFL with 1,265 yards rushing on just 3.6 yards per carry last season.
