NFL Draft 2013: Jaguars reportedly trying to trade down from No. 2 overall

Jacksonville general manager Dave Caldwell would like to trade the No. 2 overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft to add multiple picks.

USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, but would like trade down and acquire multiple picks, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Insider. Pauline reports that Jacksonville scouts are not enamored with anyone at the top of the draft and would rather give up the pick to gain more selections further down.

The majority of mock drafts, including the latest at Mocking the Draft, have the Jaguars selecting West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No. 2 pick, with Oregon linebacker Dion Jordan as the second-most common selection.

As Adam Sites points out at Big Cat Country, trading down from the No. 2 pick is easier said than done, particularly in a draft without any overwhelming standout prospects like this year. Sites also reports that Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said he had narrowed down the No. 2 pick to “less than a half dozen prospects.” If the Jags could find a way to trade down, add some picks, and still get one of their targeted players, it would be a big win for Jacksonville. The Jaguars currently have seven picks in the draft, one in each round.
