2013 NFL Draft: Chiefs considering 3 players, per report

The Kansas City Chiefs are down to three options with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are considering three players with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft according to Russ Lande of the National Football Post. Other reports indicate that the Chiefs are considering four players, but Lande believes Kansas City has narrowed it down to either Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher, or Oregon outside linebacker Dion Jordan.

On Monday, Kansas City general manger John Dorsey said the team had narrowed it down to four potential selections, but Lande's sources indicate that only those three men are really in contention to go to the Chiefs.

In the most recent mock draft from Mocking the Draft, the Chiefs are predicted to select Joeckel, but the top-pick is far less of a certainty than it has been in the past several drafts. Mocking the Draft currently predicts Fisher to the Eagles at No. 4 and Jordan to the Jets at No. 9.

If the Chiefs select any of those three players it will mark the first time anyone other than a quarterback has been selected first overall since Jake Long in 2008. It is also possible the Chiefs could trade the pick to a team interested in West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.
