Dolphins NFL draft rumors: Lane Johnson a hot name for Miami

The offensive tackle out of Oklahoma is reportedly one of the Dolphins’ main interests, but it could require some wheeling and dealing to get him.

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins are eyeing former Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Lane Johnson as their potential pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post on Tuesday.

Here’s Volin via Twitter:

Miami currently has the 12th overall selection in the draft and, as Volin alludes to, Johnson may not be around by the time the Dolphins are on the clock -- for reference, SB Nation's Dan Kadar has Johnson going to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 7 overall in his latest mock. He is SB Nation's third-rated prospect at the position, and many teams, such as the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions or Tennessee Titans, could also be in the running for an offensive lineman. And they all draft ahead of the Dolphins.

In 2012, Miami surrendered 37 sacks, tied for 14th-most in the league, with then-rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill under center. His continued development, along with the loss of lineman Jake Long to the St. Louis Rams in the offseason, has the Dolphins looking to improve their offensive line. If it's Johnson -- a potential franchise left tackle -- that Miami is after, they may just have to be willing to make a deal to ensure they get to him first.
