2013 NFL Draft team needs: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers missed the postseason in 2012 for just the fourth time in the last 12 years and lost a lot of players to free agency. What do they need to add to get back to the playoffs?

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to get value out of the 2013 NFL Draft after missing the playoff last season and being handcuffed by the salary cap in free agency. Luckily, general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin have been able to find good value in past drafts.

Pittsburgh lost a fair amount of starters in the offseason, including wide receiver Mike Wallace, cornerback Keenan Lewis, and linebacker James Harrison. As they didn't have the cap space to retain these players or find suitable replacements in free agency, they will need to address a number of needs in the draft. The Steelers may try to move down and stockpile picks to address their slew of needs.

Top three needs

Linebacker - Both the outside and inside positions need to be addressed. Former star James Harrison is now a Bengal, creating a need for a pass rushing force in Pittsburgh. On the inside, Larry Foote is getting old and needs to limit his snaps.

Safety - They lost both Will Allen and Ryan Mundy, eliminating any depth they have at the position. Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark are excellent starting safeties, but both are getting on in age and Polamalu is a major injury concern, limited to just seven games in 2012.

Wide receiver - Pittsburgh was able to hold onto Emmanuel Sanders for 2013, but they lack depth behind Sanders and Antonio Brown. With Sanders headed for unrestricted free agency next season, the Steelers need someone who can step in as the No. 3 spot this year and develop into a future starter.

Ideal pick: Barkevious Mingo, OLB, LSU or Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas
