2013 NFL Draft: Eagles making calls to trade down

Rich Schultz

With the top two picks in the 2013 NFL Draft possibly being offensive tackles, the Philadelphia Eagles may be maneuvering for a trade down.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles are making calls to get a deal in place if the player they like isn’t there.

There has been some connection between offensive tackle Lane Johnson going to the Eagles, but that’s a stretch. Johnson is the third-best player at his position. The Eagles could find a higher rated player on the defensive line.

Namely, if they don’t move, Oregon linebacker Dion Jordan would be available and he could be reunited with college coach Chip Kelly.

If the Eagles do trade down – likely to a team that is more desperate for an offensive tackle – they can get add an extra pick in the second or third round. Albert Breer of NFL Network said on Twitter Tuesday that if the Eagles trade down, they won’t want to move very far. If they don’t drop out of the top 10 or 12, pass rushers like Barkevious Mingo and Jarvis Jones could be options.

On Tuesday, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that the Eagles prefer Mingo to Jordan. Breer noted that the Eagles are “down town” Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, Jordan and Star Lotulelei with the fourth pick.

In my latest mock draft, the choice for Philadelphia was Lotulelei.
